The much-anticipated Indonesian Digital Nomad Visa is making headway and will soon be accessible for applications, according to Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia's Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, who broke the news on Monday, June 27. A digital nomad visa for Indonesia has long been in the works. The visa program could have already been in place if it weren't for the Covid-19 outbreak and the ensuing global lockdowns. Thousands of digital nomads and remote workers would be able to call Bali their home and settle there temporarily thanks to the visa.

It is expected that the digital nomad visa will allow international remote workers to stay in Bali for up to five years. The visa is supposed to allow remote employees to work online and generate an international income without having to pay taxes. This digital nomad visa will serve to clear a challenging grey area for many digital nomads who are now residing in Bali on tourist or social visas, or the B211A Multiple Entry Visitor Visa.

At the moment, KITAS permission is required of anybody entering Indonesia to operate a business or work for an organisation on an Indonesian basis. People who are employed somewhere else but go to Indonesia for work-related reasons can carry out various tasks on the D212 visa, including setting up exports, attending conferences, and providing training.
